What we do

Our mantra is “Homes built from the inside out with you at the core.”

 

This statement works on both the physical and emotional levels.

 

Physically, 80% of a successful project will never be visible, but is essential to its long term sustainable and low maintenance outcome.  

 

Emotionally, we never forget that we are creating a home that is unique to its owners rather than simply a space to live in.

 

We work a little differently from the traditional building contractor by starting at the end “Your perfect home” then working back to the beginning of where you are now.

Our Process

Fact, A major building project is complicated and needs to be professionally thought out.

 

Our background both inside and outside the construction industry has given us a unique perspective on how to best manage such projects.

Insight 1

Always think holistically.

 

Seeing the big picture is a skill all too often undervalued. 

 

Implications of reactive decisions often add significantly to cost and time.

Insight 2

Things can and will change.

 

By taking an “agile approach” to scheduling (initially developed for the software development sector), we recognise that challenges like weather, material supply, subcontractor availability, sickness, planning delays etc will and do impact on any rigid linear master plan (“No plan survives contact with the enemy”: Von Moltke 1871).

 

Being “agile” allows us to work around these events with minimum interruption to overall workplans while always keeping our focus on the entire project.

Insight 3

Plan (intensely) before executing.

 

While this may seem a direct contradiction with 2, both must work in parallel alongside a common sense/informed approach to scheduling.

 

There is nothing more costly than having to do something twice, except when you have to undo multiple other costly tasks to correct an error that could have been avoided.

One thing we never forget:

We represent you.

 

This doesn’t mean we will always agree with you and often our role is to guide you towards the correct decisions early.

 

This is best achieved by spending time at the beginning of the process immediately following appointment to fully understand what you are looking to achieve.

 

This process is then formalised into a “project brief” agreed by all parties (not the schedule, this comes later).

 

This brief then becomes the document that we refer to as we move through the process.
